Help–I'm VERY depressed & need to know why I'm about to be fired?!?

I have bipolar, depression & anxiety, really bad. I drink three to four glasses of wine a night & have for three years or so. In the past year my work performance has declined horribly and I’m about to be fired for being behind & making lots of mistakes. My alcohol intake hasn’t increased in the past year. I take meds for my psyche conditions & they were increased recently. I’m in alcohol rehab & I’ve been clean & sober now for 20 days. I have seen no improvement in my life so far because of being clean & sober. I miss alcohol TERRIBLY! What do you think is the cause of my poor work performance? Job burnout, my age (I’m 46), my psyche condition or my alcohol use? I’m very depressed & who knows what I’ll do. Thx!

We live in a society that is way over medicated. My advice would be to sit down and start writing. Let what needs to come out come out. Ask yourself what you love, what you want to do. What you do not want to do. I can relate to being bipolar so I understand. Sometimes it helps to think about what you can be grateful for. This may sound weird but try for a moment to be grateful for your depression and anxiety because although being depressed and anxious is miserable and scary and tiring it is your body’s way of telling you something is not right. Try to thank your body for telling you this because it is better than being numb from medications and not having the chance to realize you are not ok. Once you realize that you can change you will. Try to figure out what it is that brings you joy and find a way to do that. We often fail at what we are not meant to do. Think about what it is you miss about alcohol. What needs do you have that alcohol satisfies? Try to find a way to fulfill those needs in a healthy way so you can feel good about yourself.

It’s probably a mixture of the three. Alcohol can affect pre-existing conditions in a multitude of negative ways. Of course, destructive alcoholism will always damage things like work performance. While you’ve been clean for 20 days, you’re probably still suffering pyschological withdrawal from alcohol.

if you’re burnt out with your current job, why not switch to online job instead. Here’s a legitimate online job that you can join. earn money from the comfort of your home. there’s no boss to nag you every now and then. plus it can help you forget your alcohol problem. discipline starts from within. so start now..;)

I think it’s both, but what I really think is that you should stay sober, but find something healthy to replace it. Find something you enjoy like running, and if you do it every day it will most likely get rid of depression in you enjoy it, take your mind off psyche problems and, most of all, cure you of hitting the bar, hopefully. When you’re running, i’m guessing all you will really want at the time is water :D
