Please help me, i have a serious question about antidepression tablets, sleeping tablets and alchol?
I’ve just had a major crisis in my life, lost my job, facing court hearing, having to declare bankrupcy and my husband is stuck in a hostile country without money, my doctor has prescribed me anti-depression and tamazapan sleeping tablets, but i still dont sleep at night, i manage 3 hours then i lay awake for the next 4hours, i am tired all day, irratable and i am dangerous when driving. I sit in a chair and cry all the time,or drift off in my mind, i know i am really depressed but the tablets aren’t helping, so i’m wondering now, would it be ok to also have a couple of glasses of wine, when i take the sleeping tablets, then i may get more than 3 hours sleep……..any serious advice please….
Serious advice, get some exercise. 30 minutes/day is as good as antidepressants. Otherwise, talk to someone. You have to get this stuff out, these stresses are poisoning your soul and you need to deal with them. If you don’t have enough friends around get some counseling.
Also, consider taking a break from work and driving until you know you can do it. There’s no point putting yourself or others at risk, it’s not worth it.
You can rebound from major crisis, lots of people have before, but you cannot do it alone, so don’t try.
This is a great first step in that you’re talking about it, so keep at it.
Best wishes to you.
This is my suggestion.
I was on anti depressants. I was lucky, the first type the doctor gave me helped. But it’s obvious your doctor hasn’t given you enough or the right sort. I suggest you go back to your doctor. He may suggest a larger intake. Also anti-depressants take a few weeks to work, so you wont feel them straight away. make sure you take them in the morning.
I was also prescribed sleeping pills. But the first night I took them I had a really bad reaction to them. I didn’t sleep for almost 3days and i hallucinated and got shakes and my mood was even worse. I told my Mum and she didn’t believe me. I talked to my doctor and she said for some people, it can have an adverse effect and actually keep you awake. So talk to your doctor about it.
I’m not too sure about the wine. But I think it could just make you worse. Because you will be relying on the alcohol to help you get to sleep. I’d say stay away from it, but talk to your doctor.
It also sounds like you need to talk to a therapist. I know you said your bankrupt, but your health is more important than money. Maybe talk to a friend or a family member, they may offer to lend you some money to go to a counsellor.
Also please don’t drive. You could cause an accident and get yourself in to so much more trouble. Take a bus or a train or walk!
Goodluck!
Sounds like you need therapy as well as drugs. You must give the drugs time to work though. They are no immediate cures, they take time, and you might need to try a few before you find the right one. I wouldn’t advise alcohol as you don’t know how it will react to temazepam. Many people do drink with it though, and it does them no harm. Not too much though or it will keep you awake even more.
Good luck.
Alright. Perhaps you should see a counselor or therapist, to help you with your depression. They can help a lot, and nothing is better than having a professional work with you. However, if you cannot afford therapy, look at something you see as a sanctuary. Many people use religion, but others, perhaps atheists, seek a haven in friends and family. Talk to someone when you are upset, or write your feelings. It is good to keep a notebook just to write what you want. It can give you a good perspective of yourself and help you understand yourself if you write everything you think down on paper. Be optimistic about life, and depending on your attitude, fate will change. Things will work out for you.
And by the way, don’t mix wine with pills. It is dangerous. Just tell your doctor the pills don’t work.
It is never alright to drink alcohol and take medications. It adds to the affect of downers which is what sleeping meds are. Also since most meds are metabolized by the liver, alcohol is also metabolized in the liver, and it could cause acute liver failure. If that happens you would need an emergency liver transplant and may not be able to get a liver on the donor list.Go back to the doctor and tell him the problem you are having, there are more effective treatments available.
No, it wouldn’t be ok to have a couple of glasses of wine. You shouldn’t mix alcohol and pills. The best thing for you to do it to go back to your doctor and tell him how you feel and that the pills he prescribed aren’t helping. This way, he can try to find something else for you that will work.
No! Never mix sleeping meds with alcohol. How long have you been taking the antidepressants? It usually takes two weeks and sometimes up to six weeks to become effective. Also not every antidepressant works for every person. The one you’re on now may not be effective but another one may so don’t give up hope. It’s often a trial and error thing. It’s not advisable to drink alcohol while taking antidepressants and mixing alcohol with certain sleeping medications can be downright dangerous. Hang in there and work with your doctor. When the antidepressants kick in your sleep and mood should improve.
