Antiquing with Your Best Friend – Extreme Antiquing at Flea Markets
www.tias.com It’s fun to shop for antiques – and junk – at flea markets. Under all that junk and grunge lurks a treasure just waiting for you. Learn tips to make your flea market sojourn more relaxing and more fun. You can find interesting pieces combed from local estate sales. And you can find junk. We went flea marketing for elegant and depression glass and bought Fostoria Holly candle holders, Fostoria Virginia etched creamer and sugar set that is almost 90 years old, a Fostoria Lido cake plate, Manhattan clear candle holder and Cambridge Caprice creamer and sugar. Fostoria Lido etch is one of my favorite patterns and we found a cake plate! It was gray with dirt but washed up nice. With cake plates you might find lots of wear under all the dirt instead of pretty crystal. There are a couple short scratches but that’s all. All these were dirty and shoved on a table that overflowed with china, glass and knicknacks. The Virginia were behind junky fake swords and the Lido hid behind Indiana Constellation torte plate. You have to be willing to gamble a bit when you go to the flea market. Sellers there don’t warranty anything and you can find fakes and stuff that’s badly damaged. Going to the flea market is not the way to amass a collection but it is a way to have some fun! Going to the flea market is not the best way to buy glass but it is a lot of fun. If you want to get quality glass in the pieces you want then look online. Try our store Cat Lady Kate’s Elegant and …

Antiquing with Your Best Friend – How to Measure Elegant and Depression Glass with Kathy
www.tias.com Learn how to measure collectible depression glass and elegant glass plates, handled pieces, bowls and relish trays. When you know how to measure it is easier to match the piece you have with glassware described in reference books. It’s important to measure from side to side on pieces with angled sides. Measure including the rim for bowls and plates with rims. Relish trays, bowls and platters that have handles can be tricky. Measure without the handles when you want to match glass to descriptions and measurements in glassware collecting handbooks. Many sellers online include handles in their dimensions. Antiquing with Your Best Friend – Depression Glass Shopping with Kathy
www.tias.com Join us for shopping fun as we tour the Bay Antique Mall looking for depression glass. First we found some great pieces of Central etched vintage stemware including the Thistle pattern. We have Central Thistle cocktails, rather hard to find vintage stemware here. www.tias.com Next on the tour is a wonderful Horseshoe yellow depression glass platter. Indiana Glass made Horseshoe in yellow and green and it’s one of the prettiest patterns. Fostoria Glass made many etches including Beverly on green elegant depression glass. We found a rare oval console bowl with a rolled rim – beautiful piece of glassware. One of the fun pieces was a green depression glass footed cake plate. People made cakes from scratch during the depression and served them on fancy plates like this one. It’s pretty neat. One seller had Sharon pink depression glass cups, saucers and dinner plates. Her display was pretty with red hearts. Sharon is called Cabbage Rose and is just beautiful, fresh and perfect for spring with big exuberant flowers. We found a very nice Cherry Blossom green depression glass creamer. It was a bit pricey so we passed on it, but what a nice piece and authentic. Another seller had several Cambridge Decagon pink cups and salad plates. Nice glass from a high end elegant glassware company. One of my favorite patterns is Cambridge Windows Border etch and we found a center handled server in amber. Cambridge made colored glass during the depression era. We passed up a set of …
